Nice to meet you, I'm Tal Cohen

Actor | Creator | Dancer and choreographer | Dance movement therapist (MA)

Between the stage and the inner world, between movement and words, between art and life.

I am an actor, dance-theatre creator, dancer and choreographer, with experience on stages in Israel and around the world since 1995. Alongside my artistic work, I am a dance movement and expressive arts therapist, lecturer and group facilitator.

For years, I searched for my place in the world of art, until I understood that I did not need to choose between the worlds that make up who I am, but to create my own language from them.

The body has always been my starting point. The body that moves, tells a story, carries memories and emotions, and expresses what cannot always be put into words.

Creation and the stage

Over the years, I have performed as an actor and dancer in Israel and around the world, including in the international production "Aluminum", and created works combining dance, theatre, text and visual imagery.

My work "TAL" is an autobiographical dance-theatre performance about body image, identity, eating disorders, recovery and the ability to choose anew. I also perform it as Harzaga – a powerful movement-based lecture-performance.

I performed this work Off-Broadway in New York, as part of the United Solo festival in 2023, and at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2022. My work has also been presented at international festivals in Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

In 2021, I won two awards at an international theatre festival in Russia, and in 2022, I received support from the Ministry of Culture for cultural export.

Today, I continue to create for stage and screen, and explore the meeting of acting, movement, cinema and human stories.

Movement therapy – another way to create connection

I have worked as a dance movement and expressive arts therapist since 2012, and hold a master's degree (MA) from Lesley University in Boston.

Over the years, I have worked with women, children and young people, people with disabilities and special needs, and performing artists, in therapeutic, educational and community settings.

Today, I offer dance movement therapy for women and stage and screen artists, alongside workshops and lectures combining movement, dance, theatre, writing and authentic expression.

My path

I graduated from the dance program at Thelma Yellin High School, hold an advanced diploma in dance from Laban Centre London, where I received The Mary Zemke Memorial Fund award, and completed acting studies at Method Studio and City Lit in London.

I hold a bachelor's degree in humanities from the Open University and a master's degree in expressive arts therapy from Lesley University. My thesis explored the therapeutic aspects of acting and the authentic expression of performing artists.

And beyond all the degrees and stages, I am Amit's partner, mother to Ariel and Ofir, and share in raising Or and Yahli.

I believe in the power of art to touch people, connect, inspire change and open up new possibilities. Because for me, movement is more than dance – it is a way to tell a story, meet ourselves and create a new reality.

TAL MOTION – Technique. Ability. Love.
